The air conditioning went out in the quarantine area of Nashville’s dog shelter amid a heatwave with temperatures peaking in the mid-90s most days.
As a result, the city was looking for foster families who could take home 39 dogs immediately. Adoption fees were also waived for prospective owners looking for a permanent placement.
People interested in helping were asked to stop by the shelter at 5125 Harding Pl. between noon and 4 p.m. Tuesday.
🙏 HELP NEEDED 🙏
Part of our air conditioning system is down in the area where many of our dogs stay! If you can help, we are asking for people to foster a dog until the a/c is fixed. Additionally, if you have been thinking about adopting a dog we will waive your adoption fee! pic.twitter.com/fiuq298w9r

At midday Tuesday, the affected area was “uncomfortable but not dangerous,” said Metro Animal Care and Control spokesperson Matthew Peters. Portable units helped cool the building, so temperatures don’t hit dangerous levels.
The dogs in the quarantine area were not being sent home with foster or adoptive families. They are still in isolation for shots, microchipping and behavior assessment. Rather, the shelter was clearing out the dogs ready for adoption, so the quarantined dogs could take over the space until the air conditioning got fixed.
In the evening, the shelter updated on social media that the A/C was back on and that several dogs had found foster homes in the meantime.
