For the first time in 30 years, Tennessee will start a legislative session without Republican Rep. Beth Harwell.
The Nashville lawmaker not only served as a member of the state House for three decades, but for the past eight years she’s been speaker. While in that position, she built alliances and balanced budgets but also had to ask some fellow GOP members to step down.
WPLN’s Sergio Martínez-Beltrán spoke to Harwell during her last days in office.
