Nashville’s Third Man Records has announced plans to expand. The throw-back record store is taking its LPs on the road.
Third Man gained instant notoriety when it opened a physical record store in Nashville two years ago. That’s partly because of who is behind Third Man – musician and producer Jack White. The store also gets a lot of attention because its bread and butter is stamping out old fashioned 45s.
In a video on its Web site, Third Man shows off the converted delivery truck that has been turned into a bright yellow record store on wheels. Citing statistics that 97 percent of high schoolers have never been to a record store, the video asks, “perhaps they couldn’t find one?”
The Third Man Rolling Record Store will make its debut at the South by Southwest festival next week. Then, according to a news release, the custom truck designed by Jack White himself will go on a sort of tour, making stops at shows and festivals.
