After Anna Rose Mahoney cast her ballot in East Nashville on Tuesday, she felt hopeful — and a bit anxious.
Mahoney said she hopes to see Kamala Harris elected at the end of the night. However, she didn’t vote for her. Instead, Mahoney opted to vote third party, with the humanitarian conflict in Gaza at the top of her mind.
“I voted third party for the first time in my life,” Mahoney said. “Because it just it was clear from both the Democrats and Republicans that they weren’t going to have any policy changes in regards to Israel and supporting Israel.”
Mahoney said she felt comfortable doing so because Tennessee isn’t a swing state.
“I know that Tennessee is going to go red like its done for decades and decades,” Mahoney said. “I chose to vote third party because it just felt like a way to take a stand when my individual vote wouldn’t necessarily matter toward outcome in the end. So I do want I do want Harris to win. I would love to see the first female president. I just unfortunately couldn’t vote for her based on my own morals.”
