Two National Guard soldiers have been killed in a training accident. They were flying in a remote and mountainous part of East Tennessee.
The crash occurred Saturday night in Campbell County around dinnertime. Two pilots went down in a Kiowa Warrior Helicopter – which is the attack version of the OH-58 reconnaissance and observation helicopter.
A statement from the Tennessee Army Guard says the crew was conducting a “routine training flight.”
A cause for the crash isn’t known and a Guard spokesman says he’s not speculating. A board of officers is being appointed to investigate. Another OH-58 crash in Iraq last year killed two other Tennessee Guard pilots. Their families have filed a lawsuit alleging the helicopter had electronic problems.
