Roy Agee’s first paying gig playing the trombone was aboard the General Jackson Showboat. He was sixteen. After studying music at Vanderbilt, his career took him to New York, where he played with the likes of Slide Hampton, Natalie Cole and Jimmy Lovelace. Four years ago, the Nashville native returned to Music City and formed a blues band with his wife Kristie called Big Potential. They’ve just released their first CD entitled Use What You Got. As part of our ongoing series Playing in the Band, Roy Agee talks with WPLN’s Andy Scheinman about playing the trombone.
