Tennessee State University will build additional fencing around the perimeter of campus, increase room checks for weapons, and enforce a campus ID policy by instituting fines. The school announced a 10-point safety plan Friday following last week’s shooting that killed a 19-year-old and injured three students.
University President Glenda Glover outlined a program in which fraternity members will escort students across campus. She also said TSU police will hire more officers and the agency will begin answering directly to her.
“This plan goes into action not next week, not next month, not next year, but now,” she said.
An anonymous donor gave $2,500 to begin a reward program for crime tips. Glover said she would match the money with her personal money.
University officials refused to take any questions from reporters Friday. The two gunmen from last week’s incident have not been identified or arrested, though police do have security camera footage of the shooting.
