The Tennessee Valley Authority has been on a shopping spree for wind energy. Thursday the power provider announced contracts for 815-megawatts from planned wind farms in Illinois and Kansas.
Some of the power is set to come online later this year, while much of it won’t become part of TVA’s power portfolio until 2012. The agency also must work out a way to get the electricity to Tennessee.
With the recent wind contracts, TVA will soon be using enough wind energy to power 300,000 homes. The utility is beyond the halfway mark to securing 2,000 megawatts of wind energy.
