A 19-year old Marine from Christiana was killed in Afghanistan. A Department of Defense statement released on Monday said Pfc. Vincent Gammone III died Saturday.
He and another soldier, Lance Cpl. Kevin Cornelius of Ashtabula, OH, were killed in Helmand province. Both were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Gammone is the second midstate Marine to die in Afghanistan this weekend. Ashland City firefighter, Lance Cpl. Daniel Greer, a Marine reservist died in the same province on Friday.
