700 new technology jobs are coming to Franklin. The announcement was made Wednesday at the state capitol.
Verizon Wireless will build a $54 million headquarters in Cool Springs which will eventually house 1,300 employees. 550 of those jobs will be moved from an existing facility in Nashville’s Grassmere office park. Verizon already has a call center in Murfreesboro that employs roughly 1,000.
Verizon’s Tennessee president Jerry Fountain says his company has grown to the point it needs to centralize operations here.
“We’ve invested, like I said, $545 million dollars in the wireless network here. We’ve grown our business with over 47 company-owned retail stores in the state. We’ve expanded our presence significantly and the time came that we needed to establish a Tennessee headquarters.”
Fountain says other sites in the state were in the running for the headquarters but declined to comment exactly where. Also, incentives offered by the state and the city of Franklin were not disclosed and are still being worked out.
Fountain says jobs at the headquarters will start at $26,000 a year and include network programmers, business sales and human resources. Recruiting to fill the positions starts early next year.
