The deadline to register to vote in Tennessee’s gubernatorial election is Monday.
On November 2, 2010, voters across the state will elect a new Governor. Current Democratic Governor Phil Bredesen can’t run because of term limits. Democrat Mike McWherter and Republican Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam are the two major candidates.
Voters in three Congressional districts will also elect new represenatives. Murfreesboro Democrat Bart Gordon, Chattanooga Republican Zach Wamp and West Tennessee Democrat John Tanner are not running again. Wamp stepped down to run for Governor, though he lost the GOP nomination to Haslam. Gordon and Tanner are not running for another elected office.
The last day to register in person to vote is Monday, October 4, 2010. Applicants may register to vote at local election offices, or by mail. The mail-in forms must also be postmarked by October 4, 2010.
