Tennessee officials are now confirming 19 deaths from the record breaking floods that occurred over the weekend.
The heavy rain that drenched cities and towns from Memphis to Nashville may have stopped but creeks, streams and rivers continue to threaten neighborhoods and businesses.
In Nashville, power is spotty but the main concern is the city’s water supply. There are two water treatment plants, but only one is working. Nashville’s Mayor is urging residents to use water only for drinking and food preparation.
Thousands of residents have been rescued and are in shelters across the city. Tennessee’s Governor has asked for a federal disaster declaration for the areas affected.
The floodwaters are receding but the damage done will impact the city economically because nationally known landmarks such as the Grand Ole Opry, the downtown tourist district, and the Opryland Hotel all sustained flood damage.
