A new political action campaign started in Williamson County this month, Coalition for Common Sense TN. Its goal is to increase voter turnout and education, and promote leaders who support the community.
“We’re not issue specific. We’re more about how the process works,” says Chairman Bob Ravener.
Voter participation in Franklin mayoral elections is poor. Since the early 2000s, only around 1 in 10 registered voters cast a ballot.
Ravener says with his new PAC, they hope to increase those numbers. The group also wants to promote candidates they believe will change the current direction politics is going in Tennessee.
“There has been so much animosity. The latest being what we just saw, the special session,” Ravener says. “We should get back to civil discourse, treat people with dignity and respect.”
Franklin residents have until Sept. 25 to register for the October election. There are five races — four of which are for the alderman at large position. The other is for mayor.
Former Alderman Gabrielle Hanson left her seat to run against incumbent Mayor Ken Moore. There are three individuals running for Hanson’s vacant seat.
