The city of Nashville is anticipating over 100,000 people for the 2019 NFL Draft next week, making it one of the biggest multi-day sport events in Nashville’s history.
The Draft, which is being hosted by the Tennessee Titans and Nashville for the first time, is expected to draw visitors from around the country. City and team officials say they’re working hard to ensure their safety, while keeping a fun environment for the festivities.
“People are going to be happy about their experience in restaurants, bars, the party atmosphere that exists here,” says Steve Underwood, the Titans president. “And the safety that will be provided by our police department and all law enforcement.”
Underwood believes the draft is not only a sporting event but an opportunity for people to see what Nashville has to offer.
The NFL Draft main stage will be at the intersection of First Avenue and Broadway, near the heart of the city’s entertainment district.
The Metro Nashville Police Department plans to have over 400 officers downtown for the entire event. Nashville’s bomb squad, SWAT team, and other safety officials are also patrolling the area.
Access to downtown Nashville will be funneled through entry points with metal detectors. Security measures will be similar to what fans see at Nissan Stadium on game day. All weapons are prohibited and only clear bags are allowed.
The NFL Draft is free and open to the public. The event begins Thursday, April 25.
