More than three dozen flights in and out of Nashville International Airport were cancelled Monday morning. While a cold snap has gripped Middle Tennessee, airports elsewhere are digging out from a massive snowstorm.
Airport spokeswoman Shannon Sumrall says another 37 flights will likely be cancelled for the rest of Monday. Airports in Philadelphia, New York, and Chicago are still trying to deal with a massive backlog of stranded passengers from last week’s snowstorm.
“We’re looking good here, ourselves. Our runways are open, we’re good. But it’s the rest of the country.”
Sumrall says one runway in Nashville was closed temporarily Monday morning, due to ice. The airport has to use special de-icing fluid to clean its runways. Brine and salt, used on roads, can corrode jet engines.
