With Fewer Dollars, Frogge Wins School Board Race

Frogge beat Dolan in the School Board Race

Despite being vastly out-raised, Attorney Amy Frogge won the school board seat representing West Nashville. She more than doubled the vote count of her nearest competitor in the five person race.

Runner-up Margaret Dolan raised over $100,000, an unprecedented amount for a school board election. Dolan attracted contributions from the Nashville Chamber of Commerce, a local political action committee supporting charter schools, and the group StudentsFirst, founded by Michelle Rhee, the former schools director in Washington DC.

The big money proved to be a turn-off for some voters. Kathy Baker cast her ballot at a church on Brook Hollow Road. She says she was uncomfortable with the money Dolan received from out-of-state.

“It troubles me when outside money is coming into the local elections to push an agenda that we’re not sure of what they’re after.”

Baker voted for Frogge, who, with a little more than $20,000, mounted an aggressive door-to-door campaign.
