Tuesday will mark the beginning of a new chapter at Nashville Public Radio.
Instead of airing classical music during the day, WPLN will air public radio news and talk programming.
Classical music will still air from 7:30 pm until 4 am. Also, WPLN’s digital HD2 station will broadcast classical music during the day.
WPLN General Manager, Rob Gordon, says public radio’s news and information programs are the most powerful, and switching to a primarily news format tends to attract a wider audience. He anticipates disappointment among some listeners.
The Nashville Symphony’s CEO, Alan Valentine, feels in a city that celebrates music this move may not be the right one.
