Vanderbilt Student Communications has inked a deal to sell its radio station, and Nashville Public Radio is the buyer.
WRVU has long been a student-run station, known for an eclectic program schedule that emphasized indie music. The campus organization that holds the station’s license first proposed selling it in September. Since then, fans and the station’s DJs have actively protested that move and have complained about being shut out of the decision-making process.
The university will continue to broadcast online and, starting in the fall, on one of WPLN’s HD bands.
The main FM signal will now be known as Classical 91.1. Starting tomorrow, Nashville Public Radio’s classical music staff and programming will shift to that station, playing music round-the-clock under the call letters WFCL.
