Amazon Shopper? Get Ready To Pay Tennessee Sales Tax On Jan. 1

Starting in January, Amazon will begin charging Tennessee customers sales tax for the first time. And while the online retail giant has been posting huge sales figures in recent quarters, the estimates for what the company will bring Tennessee is a little less eye-popping.

Tennessee’s top Republicans are giving the cold shoulder to President Obama as he makes a rare visit to the state. Governor Bill Haslam’s office says he decided to keep his scheduled appointments Tuesday rather than travel to Chattanooga.

Haslam Goes to Congress for Online Taxing Authority

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam defended his record on taxes before a Congressional committee Tuesday. He’s trying to convince lawmakers in Washington that states need more power to collect sales taxes from Internet retailers.
