Nashville Education Leaders Reject More Charter Schools

The Metro Nashville school board is again saying no to more charter schools. Local school officials opted against adding more than 3,000 new charter seats in the district during a vote Tuesday evening.

School Superintendent Floats Extreme Measures For Charter-Heavy East Nashville

Metro Schools superintendent Jesse Register is proposing to create what he’s calling a special “choice zone” in East Nashville, which will also include closing one or more zoned schools. He floated the idea to the board of education Tuesday night.

Nashville Schools Recruiter Says She Can’t Do What Teach For America Can

Roughly one in six new teachers in Nashville’s public schools come from the non-traditional training program Teach for America. And a contract approved by the Metro school board this week will maintain that hiring pace for at least another three years.

State Charter Authorizer Sponsor ‘Listening’ to Input

With Fewer Dollars, Frogge Wins School Board Race

Despite being vastly out-raised, Attorney Amy Frogge won the school board seat representing West Nashville. She more than doubled the vote count of her nearest competitor in the five person race.
