A hidden gem of whitewater rafting faces an uncertain future after Hurricane Helene

Whitewater outfitters on the Nolichucky River are facing an uncertain future after Hurricane Helene. The storm washed a CSX rail line into the river. Now heavy equipment is crawling all over the wild, remote gorge, and outfitters haven’t heard whether the U.S. Forest Service plans to issue permits for them to operate.

Railroad workers may go on strike on Friday. What does this mean for Nashville?

Railroad workers look ready to strike by the end of this week when a 60-day negotiation session ends. President Biden delayed a rail strike through executive action back in July, but trains may be forced to grind to a halt if a compromise can’t be reached by the end of the “cooling off” period.
