What to expect on Election Day in Nashville

More than 100 candidates are vying for more than 40 elected offices across Nashville on an Election Day that should bring clarity to the race to be the city’s next mayor.  Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. — and unlike the early voting period, residents must go to their assigned polling locations.

Tennessee has open primaries, but Republicans are trying to close them

In Tennessee, voters don’t have to register with a political party to vote in primaries. They can choose to receive either a Republican or Democratic ballot. Republican lawmakers are trying to change that — worrying voting rights groups.
