Heat is the leading cause of weather-related deaths in the U.S. and globally. Heat can strain organs in bodies as people try to cool down, worsening conditions like heart disease, diabetes and asthma.  Heat risk communication like heat advisories, however, varies across the country.

FEMA’s deadline for December tornado relief is less than a month away

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved and dispersed up to $2 million so far from damage caused by tornadoes that struck Middle Tennessee in December. The deadline for enrollment is Feb. 12.

Deaths, outages and icy roads: Tennessee’s dangerous cold continues

The Tennessee Department of Health has confirmed 14 fatalities related to the winter storm. Five people have died in Shelby County, two in Washington, and one each in Hickman, Madison, Carroll, Knox, Van Buren, Lauderdale and Henry counties.
