Witnesses saw an armed group harassing Helene aid workers in a small Tennessee town, sheriff says

Carter County Sheriff Mike Farley said the harassment of Federal Emergency Management Agency workers happened Saturday in the remote community of Elk Mills. No arrests were made, but he says the small group of armed people who showed up were looking to cause trouble.

Mexican immigrant families plagued by grief, questions after Tennessee plant workers swept away by Helene

Homeowners hit by Hurricane Helene face the grim task of rebuilding without flood insurance

Homeowners hit the hardest are grappling with how they could possibly pay for the flood damage from one of the deadliest storms in recent history to hit the mainland. Most private insurance companies don’t carry flood insurance, leaving the National Flood Insurance Program run by FEMA as the primary provider.
