Mindblowing Stat: Nissan’s Smyrna Plant Now Makes Two Cars Every Minute

Nissan’s plant in Smyrna has quickly ballooned to become the most productive auto factory in the country. The Franklin-based company expects to build more than 650,000 cars there this year.

Tennessee’s auto industry represents the best and worst of sales for the month of April. Franklin-based Nissan North America outshined the other big automakers. Volkswagen, with its only U.S. plant in Chattanooga, remained at the back of the pack.

Outgoing New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is looking for a way to save the Taxi of Tomorrow, built by Franklin-based Nissan North America. He wants to replace more than 10,000 cabs with the Nissan vehicle, but a court ruled earlier this year that the city couldn’t force taxi drivers to switch.

Former Nissan Worker Among Six Indicted For Warranty Kickback Scheme

Six people are facing federal charges for trying to defraud Nissan North America. According to the US Attorney’s office in Nashville, 44 year old Kenneth Carter worked as an arbitration specialist for the Franklin-based automaker, where he helped settle warranty claims filed by Nissan owners.
