Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee says late summer date for special session on guns wasn’t his call

Most public schools in the state will start this August, shortly before a special session on gun reform starts. That has some advocates speculating that Gov. Bill Lee had that in mind when he selected Aug. 21.

Gov. Bill Lee is calling on the Tennessee legislature to pass a law that would restrict people who pose a threat to themselves or others from having access to guns. But while he is the chief of command in the state, if lawmakers aren’t on board, it won’t happen.

House Speaker threatens expulsion for three lawmakers over protest participation

Parents and children held signs and shouted chants during a large protest at the Tennessee capitol last week following a deadly school shooting. And while no one was arrested or injured, Republican House Speaker Cameron Sexton is comparing the demonstration to the Jan. 6 insurrection.

Tensions high at the Tennessee Capitol as hundreds protest for more gun restrictions

Well over 1,000 people gathered at the Tennessee State Capitol early Thursday morning for a demonstration in favor of more restrictions on guns. Their plan: to be as disturbingly loud as possible in hopes of getting the attention of state lawmakers.

Metro Council says it needs more time to set new districts
