President approves Tennessee disaster relief for May storms

Maury County tornado survivors reflect on deadly storm that struck with little notice

A week removed from the EF-3 tornado, residents in Maury County are continuing to clean up debris. The storm uprooted trees, destroyed homes, and picked up vehicles. But residents are just happy to have each other.

Tennessee farms report storm damage, including flooded crops and livestock struck by lightning

Last week’s deadly storms hit rural areas of Middle Tennessee hard, including many farms. The damages include cattle washed away, hundreds of thousands of dollars of crops flooded, barn roofs torn up and fences knocked down by fallen trees. There have even been reports of livestock struck by lightning.

4 Tennessee tornadoes confirmed, with highest winds at 140 mph

2023 is Tennessee’s 7th-deadliest year for tornadoes

Tornadoes directly killed 16 people this year in Tennessee. In the spring, there were 10 deaths during the March 31-April 1 tornado event in West Tennessee. There were also five deaths during the storm from straight-line winds, but the National Weather Service separates fatalities by the specific hazard.
