Nashville Faces Five Heat Advisories In A Single Week

Nashville’s actual temperatures and the heat index reached about 95 and 105 degrees, respectively, amid this year’s first heat advisories, all coming in the last week. Still, that didn’t keep locals and tourists from visiting some of the city’s most popular outdoor attractions Thursday.

Thursday’s Heat Wave Won’t Disrupt Power, TVA says

The Tennessee Valley Authority anticipates that 30,500 megawatts of power will be needed to keep air conditioners humming — just shy of the utility’s peak power usage in 2008. The National Weather Service predicts potentially 100-degree weather in Nashville this Thursday, but TVA says it’s ready to meet the elevated electricity demand.

Nashville Updates Its Tornado Sirens, Allowing For More Targeted Warnings

A long-awaited upgrade to Nashville’s tornado warning system has been completed. Emergency managers said Wednesday they’d added 20 additional sirens in rural areas, as well as upgrading 93 existing alarms (read list of locations or view map below).

Evacuees Return After Fleeing Floodwaters On Upper Cumberland Plateau

The swollen Duck River is still the sight to see in Columbia as flood waters slowly recede. The torrential weekend rain pushed the Duck into major flood stage, and waters released upstream have kept the river high.

Another Washout For Whites Creek As Harvey Dumps On Middle Tennessee

Listen Residents along Whites Creek in Bordeaux returned to their North Nashville homes Friday morning after evacuating overnight. The remnants of Hurricane Harvey dumped enough water locally to propel the creek into flood stage. The low-lying neighborhood has become accustomed to fleeing floodwaters.
