Tennessee Is A Signature Away From Letting Most People Carry A Handgun With No Permit

Tennessee is on track to become the latest state to eliminate the requirement that gun owners get a permit to carry in public. The state House of Representatives approved the measure last night, and hours before the vote, Governor Bill Lee reiterated he intends to sign it.

Nashville Lawyer Makes Second Attempt To Restrain Local Government

A Nashville lawyer is making a second attempt to weaken the local government’s power. Jim Roberts submitted over 14,000 petition signatures to the Metro Clerk’s Office on Thursday. The courts may have to step in to determine how many signatures are needed to qualify the petition.

Resolution To Make The Bible Tennessee’s Official State Book Returns To The Legislature

A push to designate the Bible the official state book of Tennessee has returned to the state legislature. This is the third time Rep. Jerry Sexton, R-Bean Station, has pushed this measure (HJR0150), despite some concerns of its constitutionality from other lawmakers.

Tennessee Lawmakers Near Final Vote On Eliminating Gun Permit Requirement

Tennessee lawmakers are getting close to a final vote on a plan to do away with the state’s gun permit requirement. The measure has passed the Senate and is on track for a vote on the House floor — possibly as soon as next week.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn Again Sponsors New Asylum Restrictions

Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn is, once again, co-sponsoring a bill to tighten restrictions on immigration. It’s the third try for retiring Oklahoma Sen. Jim Inhofe’s legislation, called the “Asylum Abuse Reduction Act.” Blackburn first signed on as one of five co-sponsors in the bill’s second iteration in 2019.
