U.S. Senate candidate Bob Tuke raised three times more money than his opponent in the Democratic primary in second quarter fundraising.
The former state Democratic Party Chair raised about $200,000 to former Knox County Clerk Mike Padgett’s $47,000. However, the incumbent Republican Senator Lamar Alexander has dramatically outraised both men. He raised about $600,000 in the second quarter.
Another Republican incumbent, Brentwood Representative Marsha Blackburn, also raised more money than her primary opponent, Shelby County’s Tom Leatherwood. Nashvillepost.com reports Blackburn raised $315,000 for the second quarter – a campaign record for her. Leatherwood’s second quarter fundraising figures were not available. The last federal report, which showed activity through March showed only $24,000 in campaign contributions.
Early voting for the state’s primary races begins Friday.
