Rose Gilbert (she/her) is the newest member of WPLN News. As one of This Is Nashville‘s Multimedia Producers (along with Tasha Lemley), Rose is actively involved in field reporting, community engagement and show planning. Get to know her.
1. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Spy, explorer or first-ever female player in Major League Baseball, depending on the day.
2. What can listeners expect you to do at WPLN News in the next year?
I’ve spent a lot of time out in the field asking community members about what kind of topic they’d like to see us cover. Now that the show has launched, you will hear some of my work on the radio as well as online. And of course, you can always expect me to be working with our other multimedia producer [Tasha A.F. Lemley] and our host [Khalil Ekulona] to get the show ready for air each day.
3. a) Do you consider yourself to be a foodie? b) Any favorite Nashville restaurants so far? c) Any places on your “must try” list?
I wouldn’t quite say I’m a foodie, but I do enjoy grabbing a bite when I’m out and about. Some of my favorite places so far are Jamaicaway, Anzie Blue and Fido. I still need to try Prince’s Hot Chicken!
4. Where else have you lived besides Middle Tennessee?
I’ve moved around a decent amount! I’m originally from Louisville, Kentucky, but I have lived in England, Italy, New Jersey and New York. And if we’re counting anywhere I have paid more than a month of rent, I’d add France and Lebanon to the list.
5. What’s your go-to karaoke song? (Not that we’d ever make you sing it.)
I really and truly cannot sing. With that in mind, probably “Devil Went Down to Georgia” because it’s very fun and mostly talking. I will, however, sing along to just about anything with my little sister, who is very talented and the musician of the family.
BONUS: Where is your dream vacation?
My best friend from high school just moved to a small town near Osaka in Japan, so my dream vacation is currently to go visit her!
