Former Tennessee nurse RaDonda Vaught was found guilty of gross neglect of an impaired adult and negligent homicide on Friday. The verdict came after a three-day trial in Nashville describing how Vaught injected 75-year-old Charlene Murphey with a powerful paralytic instead of a sedative while Murphey was being treated for a brain injury at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Murphey died on Dec. 27, 2017, and now Vaught faces three to six years in prison for neglect and one to two years for negligent homicide.
Kaiser Health News reporter Brett Kelman has been following the Vaught trial since the nurse was first arrested in 2019. Kelman joined This Is Nashville host Khalil Ekulona on Monday to talk about the verdict and what it means for the future of nursing.
