Christina Soontornvat is an engineer, science educator and the bestselling author of more than 25 books for children of all ages. Her latest picture book, Leo’s First Vote, is a timely introduction to elections and the importance of every single vote.
Christina grew up multiracial in a small Texas town. Although she loved to read, becoming a professional writer was never part of her original plan. After earning an engineering degree and then undergoing a transformational career change, she embraced her passion for storytelling.
Today, we speak with her about her life, her work and her 10-year journey to becoming a best-selling author — plus how, along the way, she leaned on her cultural roots as well as the life lessons instilled in her by her family.
