Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney appeared at an annual Tennessee Republican fundraiser this weekend, even though most of the party’s support is being reserved for former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson.
Thompson has barely entered the race for the republican nomination for president. He announced last week that he’s forming an exploratory committee. But that didn’t stop Romney from having a sense of humor about the situation.
“By the way, I keep getting asked by the media, ‘who do you think is going to be most impacted when Fred Thompson gets into the race? Who’s going to be most hurt by this?’ And I said, ‘That’s really easy. It’s the fans of Law and Order.’ There the ones most hurt, no question about that.”
One of Romney’s main Tennessee backers, Congressman Marsha Blackburn announced late last month that she’s switching her support to Thompson. Blackburn was in Europe on a congressional trip and did not attend this weekend’s event.
