A bill paving the way for investor-owned companies to run charter schools in Tennessee passed at the end of a nearly six-hour committee meeting Wednesday night. Weary members of the Senate Education panel voted six to three, sending the proposal on to the full Senate.

Tennessee Private Schools Will Still Play Sports With Public, For Now

The state’s governing body over high school sports has decided to hold off on a proposal that would block private schools from playing against public teams. The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association—known as the TSSAA—voted 7 to 2 at a legislative council meeting Wednesday morning.
