Nashville Police Officer’s Murder Trial Is Delayed Yet Again Due To COVID-19 Pandemic

The first murder trial of a Nashville police officer for an on-duty killing has been delayed again. Andrew Delke will not stand trial until at least July, according to an order signed by a judge on Tuesday. Jury selection was slated to begin in mid-February.

Nashville Community Bail Fund, Criminal Court Clerk Agree To Make It Easier For People To Make Bail

A new agreement will make it easier for the Nashville Community Bail Fund to get people out of jail. Earlier this year, the nonprofit sued Davidson County’s criminal court clerk, with help from the ACLU.

A man died last week shortly after Nashville police arrested him, but unlike past in-custody deaths, nearly the whole incident appears to have been caught on body camera. Reporters were shown the footage at police headquarters Thursday.

More than a dozen minority employees of Nashville’s police department tell WPLN News they feel they’ve faced unequal treatment, and in at least one recent case, the Metro Civil Service Commission has agreed. Members recently overturned her demotion after her lawyer argued she’d been punished more severely than male officers.

Nashville Police And Civilian Oversight Board Agree To Work Together, After Months Of Negotiations

The Community Oversight Board and the Metro Nashville Police Department have finalized a new agreement that provides broad powers to the civilian group. It’s a major landmark for the COB, which comes more than two years after an overwhelming number of Nashvillians voted in favor of police oversight.

The Metro Nashville Police Department has a new leader after a months-long, nationwide search that ultimately isn’t venturing far for the selection. Interim Chief John Drake is dropping the word “interim” from his title, Mayor John Cooper announced Monday. Drake has run the department since former Chief Steve Anderson retired in August.
