The Councilman for the Bells Bend area of Nashville says he’s going to defer the controversial May Town Center development. The zoning change allowing for the proposal is before the Metro Council next week.
Councilman Lonnell Matthews says he wants to make sure a land donation to Tennessee State University gets worked out before moving forward with the rezone change. Developers for the proposed corporate office park donated 250-acres to set up an agricultural research facility. Matthews wants to make sure they keep their promise.
“That was one constant that both the opponents and supporters of the project said was a very good aspect of the project and that everyone would like to see happen regardless of whether the May Town Center was a go or not.”
The Metro Planning Commission did not approve the May Town project last week. The Council could override that decision with 27 votes, but Matthews says he’s not sure there are that many Council members in favor. The project is scheduled for a public hearing before the body next Tuesday.
