Tennessee’s First Lady, Andrea Conte, held a conference call with reporters this afternoon regarding Governor Phil Bredesen’s health, and says there’s no word yet on what caused his illness last week.
Bredesen came down with a high fever and flu-like symptoms and checked into Centennial Medical Center last Monday. Tests in Nashville proved inconclusive, so the governor and his wife traveled this week to Minnesota’s Mayo Clinic for further analysis.
Conte says the governor was up early this morning and has undergone an extensive series of tests.
“We still don’t know why he became so ill. And why we don’t know what caused it, he is, I’m very happy to say, recovering.”
Bredesen is at the Mayo clinic on an outpatient basis. Bredesen is expected to finish tests tomorrow, but the governor’s office says it’s not sure when he’ll be back to work.
