After last week’s primary, Former Congressmen Ed Bryant and Van Hilleary say they are fully supporting former Chattanooga Mayor Bob Corker’s bid for the US Senate.
But not all of the Republican Party’s support will go to Corker. The anti-abortion group, Tennessee Right to Life had endorsed Bryant for this campaign. Right to Life president Brian Harris says the organization will not be endorsing Corker.
“I think it will be an abdication of our leadership responsibilities if we were to take sacrificially given contributions to the pro-life movement and give them toward the effort to elect a man who has only a pro-abortion track record and that’s who Bob Corker is. There are plenty of good, solid pro-life candidates for the state house, the governor’s race, for congressional races who all need our support.”
The fractures within the Republican Party over the US Senate race aren’t likely to help Corker. 16-year-old Allie Hall says she’s been campaigning for Ed Bryant for months, but now she’s going to work for republican gubernatorial candidate Jim Bryson.
“I think Corker is um, a moderately, kind of blow with the wind type.”
Hall is part of a group of kids who campaign for candidates endorsed by the Home School Legal Defense Association.
Republican Bob Corker faces Democratic Congressman Harold Ford Jr. for the US Senate seat being vacated by retiring Senator Bill Frist.
