Bob Corker won the republican nomination in the campaign for the U-S Senate last night after several brutal weeks of campaigning against his opponents, former Congressmen Van Hilleary and Ed Bryant.
Hilleary conceded early.
“Let’s be honest, Bob had a lot more money. Bob ran a good race. Bob deserves to win and I think he’s going to make a great US Senator.”
Hilleary’s exit left Bryant and the former Chattanooga Mayor to wait and watch the returns. But finally, Bryant acknowledged to his supporters, many of whom were teary-eyed, that they didn’t have enough votes.
The last few weeks of the primary turned into a nasty fight over records, with all three candidates taking to the airwaves. But Bryant says he’s going to support Corker.
“I can’t speak for anybody, but I can tell you we all agree that we don’t want Harold Ford Junior as our next United States Senator.”
Corker says he’ll be meeting with Bryant and Hilleary soon to enlist their help in campaigning against the democratic nominee, Congressman Harold Ford Junior. Corker fired his opening shot at Ford, calling him a life-long politician.
“He’s been in Washington since he was young. He’s a career politician who as best I can tell has never had any other kind of job.”
The general election is November 7th.
