In Tennessee, a relatively new state health plan targeted at small businesses has been allowing the self-employed access to insurance. In fact, they make up half of the enrollees in Cover-T-N, a program not marketed to them.
People in one-person shops often have a tough-time finding health insurance – it can be too expensive or unavailable, because of a pre-existing condition.
Cover-T-N is trying to fill the gap for small businesses by offering stripped down benefits and no catastrophic coverage, which has led some to criticize the approach. WPLN’s Christine Buttorff reports. – More information on CoverTN is at covertn.gov
