Nashville Mayor Karl Dean says he’s pleased with the legislature’s movement on the charter school issue today.
Dean and his staff have been actively pushing for expanded enrollment eligibility for charter schools.
“I’m very encouraged and happy that the legislature came back to it after seemingly walking away from it and you know, I applaud some of the leaders. Mike Turner has given a lot of help and I applaud the Obama administration for intervening and basically talking about Tennessee and talking about the need for reform.”
US Education Secretary Arne Duncan had conversations with legislators about supporting charter schools including House Democratic Caucus Chair Mike Turner.
