Former Titan Eddie George will be trying to convince Tennesseans to exercise and eat healthier as part of a new diabetes awareness campaign.
The pro-athlete is the new public face of Get-Fit-Tennessee, an initiative kicked-off by Governor Phil Bredesen today/yesterday.
George says he’ll be talking to schools and community groups about preventing obesity, a condition directly linked to diabetes. George says he wants to help people exercise more in a fun way.
“It’s not about grinding out or working out everyday. It’s about doing the simple things like getting out everyday and walking and playing with your children and making sure it’s an enjoyable lifestyle that you integrate into your life.”
Currently, about 1 in 3 children and 1 in 2 minority children are at risk for developing the disease in the state.
The awareness campaign is funded as part of Project Diabetes which is one of the health care programs established as part of this year’s Cover Tennessee legislation.
