A 26-year-old man is dead Saturday morning after a fatal shooting by Nashville police.
Police reported the shooting via Twitter before 6 a.m. and posted excerpted body camera footage about five hours later. They say three Metro officers — Sgt. John Timm, Sgt. Leonard Spadavecchia and Officer John Robish — fired on a man on Maple Street in Madison. The video footage shows the man pointing a pistol at one officer and firing.
Police say the officers were on that street in response to an earlier shooting that did not involve officers. They say a 32-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds in a parking lot just off Gallatin Pike South. He was transported to a hospital, and detectives say he did not give any information on what happened to him.
A package of body camera video released by the Metro Nashville Police Department on YouTube shows officers closing off access to the area with crime scene tape. In a voiceover, police spokesperson Don Aaron says a man approached 33 minutes after the initial call.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation later identified him as Senquarius Demonta Williams.

In the video, body camera footage captures an officer asking, “Who’s that?” as he spots Williams walking toward the crime scene from a distance. Officers then approach him from different angles.
“Hey, can you put your — take your hands out your pockets for me?” the officer asks, as Williams lifts the tape and goes under it.
The officer then yells, “Hey, stop!” as Williams pulls out a gun. The officer retreats, and a second camera shows Williams continuing to advance on him and fire. Officers can then be heard firing back, and Williams can be seen taking a shot to the chest and then collapsing. They say he died at the scene.
Aaron says police are investigating if Williams was involved in the earlier shooting at the scene, and that the TBI and the Davidson County District Attorney’s Office will continue to investigate the later fatal shooting involving officers.
Update: This story has been updated to include the identity of the man killed by police, Senquarius Demonta Williams.
