The three candidates vying for the republican nomination in the race to replace outgoing Senator Bill Frist, appeared at a debate in Memphis last night, their second seven days.
In a race where two former congressmen, Van Hilleary and Ed Bryant and former Chattanooga mayor Bob Corker all have similar views, they have struggled to set themselves apart from each other and the likely democratic nominee, Congressman Harold Ford Junior.
Hilleary and Bryant gave similar answers to questions on immigration, abortion and even the so-called “FairTax,” which replaces the federal income tax with a national sales tax. Corker gave similar answers too, like this one.
“I am very intrigued by the FairTax, very intrigued. The devil’s in the details though, how do you transition from the type of taxation that we have today where you have mortgage interest and those kinds of things into the FairTax.”
Early voting for the August third Republican primary began Friday and runs trhough Saturday, July 29th.
