A judge ruled today against the Fraternal Order of Police in its suit against the Metro Police Department’s new policy of putting undercover police in uniform for patrol duty.
Chancellor Claudia Bonnyman didn’t allow the injunction against the department because there wasn’t enough evidence that the undercover agents would be placed in harm’s way by having to do uniformed patrol.
Brock Parks is executive director and legal counsel for the FOP. He says the FOP will continue to pursue the issue.
“I can promise you we won’t let it go, now what avenue we take from here, that’s really the only thing that remains to be seen. Now I am absolutely adamant that this is a bad decision on the part of the department to put officers in this position. It makes no sense whatsoever, and it’s going to end up getting somebody hurt.”
The FOP will be in court again on Monday to battle a decertification suit brought on by the Teamster’s Union. The battle is over which group will be the collective bargaining unit for Metro Police officers.
