Congressman Harold Ford Junior continued to denounce ads from the Republican National Committee today. The new ad charges the democratic U-S Senate candidate with voting for gay marriage and for wanting to give the abortion pill to minors.
Ford, speaking in Knoxville, says he wants the ad pulled.
“I have never supported gay marriage, never supported giving—it’s unconscionable to think of giving school girls abortion pills. The RNC knew that was not true.”
While campaigning in Nashville today, Ford’s republican opponent Bob Corker, says he hasn’t seen this particular ad. Part of the problem, he says, is that the RNC is funding ads but a third party is producing them.
“You know that we can not talk directly to these people. You know the RNC can’t even talk to them so what I did was raise the attention and awareness of this…and we also if you remember, there was a radio ad that came out in some county nearby, we asked that it be pulled. It was pulled. I would actually ask that my opponent do the same thing.”
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee launched two-anti Corker ads this week. One alleges emergency calls went unanswered by the Chattanooga 9-1-1 response system when Corker was mayor. The other questions Corker’s record on taxes.
