The state is trying a new tactic to get more information about health care options to people coming off the TennCare rolls, and to those already uninsured.
Governor Phil Bredesen’s administration has put on 12 health care options fairs around the state. The last one in Nashville at the end of August saw very low turnout, but Department of Human Services legislative coordinator Mark Brown, says he’s hopeful one scheduled for tonight will be different.
“In thinking of ways to try and get better attendance than we got at some of the previous fairs, we though maybe if we could expand it a little bit and talk about some other things that we could boost attendance and we’re hoping that we do.”
Tonight’s fair will include free screenings for depression and dental services, in addition to the safety net resources. And there will also be information on other social services such as food stamps and disability payments.
The fair runs from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Tennessee Tech Center on White Bridge Road.
