Consultants charged with finding more cost-effective ways of providing health care for those who can’t afford it in Nashville held their first meeting today.
The Mayor’s office hired John Snow Incorporated to find ways for improving care delivered to the city’s indigents. In the long run, they hope to lower the $40 to 50 million subsidy paid to the Hospital Authority every year.
Consultant Reesa Webb says they’re going to start by interviewing stakeholders.
“Including under-served folks to see what their needs are, how their needs are currently being met and how they would recommend meeting their needs.”
A community advisory board will be providing local expertise for the consultants. Former State Chief Justice Adolpho Birch and HCA Chairman Jack Bovender are leading the group. For Nashville Public Radio, I’m Christine Buttorff.
