In Tennessee’s redrawn 4th District — where some South Nashvillians have found themselves after redistricting — incumbent Rep. Scott DesJarlais is now set to face off against Fayetteville’s Victoria Broderick.

DesJarlais, who has held the seat for 15 years, has aligned himself with President Trump. He voted to overturn the election results of the 2020 presidential election, has passed legislation allowing military to carry firearms at recruiting stations and voted against establishing Juneteenth as a national holiday.
He also has been caught up in controversy: In 2012, a taped phone call surfaced, appearing to show DesJarlais pressuring a mistress into having an abortion, despite consistently voting against abortion access. The following year, DesJarlais, a doctor, was also fined and reprimanded by the state board of Medical Examiners for having sex with patients prior to his election.
DesJarlais fended off challenges from three other conservative Republicans (all military veterans) to win the ticket.
This fall, he will face Democrat Victoria Broderick, a Fayetteville mother in the tech industry. To win the ticket, Broderick beat out Nashville Metro Councilmember Mike Cortese, who had out-fundraised the entire primary field, both Democrat and Republican. Despite a nearly $700,000 deficit, Broderick bested Cortese, plus three other Democrats.
